Bodaboda operators in Eldoret town are crying foul for allegedly being mistreated by county askaris.

Speaking in his office on Monday, the Bodaboda and Taxis Association North Rift chairman Richard Mukhobero said bodaboda operators are being arrested and mishandled and fined for no good reason.

“Am really disappointed by the way the county is handling my members arresting them anyhow and yet they have not committed any mistake to deserve that,” he said.

He said the askaris are fond of arresting the bodaboda operators even if they are on the right track and charging them a Sh5,000 fine.

“When did the county assembly pass legislation that bodaboda operators are supposed to pay that fine? And before any law is passed there is supposed to be a public participation in which we didn’t participate,” he said

He urged Uasin Gishu governor to intervene to stop the alleged mistreatment saying their operations are being highly hindered by the askaris.

“I call upon Governor Jackson Mandago to act with speed to bring sanity in the industry, and if not we are planning a very big demonstration that will paralyse business in town until our pleas are heard,” he added.
