Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has cautioned political leaders against using churches as platforms for political exchanges.
Kega spoke after attending a church service in Nyeri on Saturday, saying that it is contemptible for politicians to engage in politics in churches.
“It is despicable for politicians to use churches to engage in political attacks and rhetoric,” he said.
“Political leaders who are interesting in political exchanges should organise public barazas to engage in politics and leave churches out of it,” he said.
A week ago, a catholic Bishop in Embu cautioned churches against inviting politicians to harambees as guests of honour.
Bishop Paul Kariuki also warned church leaders against giving out church facilities and compounds as venues for political gatherings.
According to Kariuki, these measures are aimed at giving the faithful an opportunity to choose their leaders without preferential considerations.
