Two Cord senators now want the government to halt the Northern Collector Water Tunnel project in Murang’a County and called for another Environmental Impact Assessment to be conducted.
Siaya Senator James Orengo and his Machakos counterpart Johnstone Muthama said Thursday the multi-billion-shilling water poses danger to millions of residents in Murang'a, Garissa, Ukambani and Tana River counties.
"The project poses a danger to the livelihoods of millions of people in Murang'a, Garissa, Ukambani and Tana River as it will turn the region into a desert in less than five years. There will be pollution downstream. These are the dangers we should be conscious of," said Orengo as quoted by The Standard.
He also dismissed trashed assertions that the project was conceived by the grand coalition government and launched by Raila.
