Nakuru County assembly deputy speaker Joseph Tanui has urged leaders to stop petty politics and address issues facing the people.
Speaking during his home coming party in Nessuit ward on Wednesday, Tanui expressed concerns over continued politicking among leaders.
“Time for politics ended, and it is time for leaders to work for Kenyans,” he said.
“It’s unfortunate that politicians are still engaging in politics when Kenyans are suffering.”
The deputy speaker blamed politicians for insecurity lapses that have been experienced in some parts of the country, saying such lapses would not be experienced if leaders put their heads together and work.
Tanui said the continued threats by opposition leaders could only worsen the situation. He added that the country needs unity for it to prosper.
He blamed politicians for creating an election mood when election time is still far away.
Concerning the two referenda being drummed up by the opposition and governors, the deputy speaker stated that the country is not ready for such, terming it a waste of time.
He said the issues being raised by the opposition and the governors can be tackled through other channels.
