Jama said Korane hired goons to block water lines and then claimed that there is no water in Garissa town and its environs because of the county government.

On Tuesday last week, Korane and his supporters protested on the streets in Garissa town while carrying empty 20litre jerricans, accusing Jama and his administration of failing to solve the water scarcity in Garissa town.

The governor, who was speaking to journalists at his office in Garissa however dismissed Korane’s claims saying he is playing cheap politics.

Jama said some of the culprits have already been arrested by the police in connection to the incidences that have left Garissa residents without water.

He urged his opponents to conduct campaigns in a civil manner without inciting the people or talking about non-issues as far as policies are concerned.

“That trick you are using will not take you anywhere. You cannot go round the town carrying empty jerricans and claiming that there is no water when you very well know that it's you who hired some individuals to block the same. Let us not play with people's lives. You will not get votes by applying such unorthodox means,” the governor said.

The governor added that his administration through the Garissa Water and Sewerage Company (GAWASCO) has tried to alleviate water crises in the county.

“Residents of Garissa know how the town was a few months ago and how much we have invested in water in Garissa town through GAWASCO,” said Jama.
