Gikaria said it was not possible for every student to join the school of their choice owing to the huge number of students transiting from primary schools to secondary school.

Speaking Monday afternoon at the CDF offices when he handed over bursary cheques to 20 students joining national schools from his constituency, Gikaria said that what matters is the student’s commitment and dedication in learning and called on parents to accept the schools which their children have been admitted to.

Arama said it was wrong for politicians to demand a lion’s share of admissions in national schools found in their regions and wondered what will happen to those who don’t have national schools in their regions.

“My colleagues are talking about good national schools and threatening to lock out students from other regions in schools within their areas but I want to tell them that we can play politics on anything but not the education of young Kenyans. All national schools are the same and I don’t see why people should be making a lot of noise about the selection. If your child is a hardworking student he/she will pass even if you take him to a district school,” said Gikaria.

Gikaria called on the students who benefited with the bursary to work hard and make the name of his constituency be felt in the schools they will join.

“The only way you can say thank you for being granted this bursary is by working hard and making the presence of Nakuru east felt at your school,” he told the students.

Students joining national schools countrywide started reporting officially today.
