Speaking over the demonstrations that rocked University of Eldoret which rendered it closed, the governor asked the universities key officials to be vigilant with how they choose to address the issue stating that the institutions reputation is under intense public scrutiny.

“We as a county are also very much affected when allegations of corruption, nepotism and tribalism hail from our institutions, but there is no need to involve the locals in any way,” he explained in reference to Uasin Gishu Senator Isaac Melli who chose to join in on the demonstrations levied against University of Eldoret’s top management.

He further urged the residents residing near the college area to respect and support institutions in the area as opposed to politicizing every issue in the locality.

“Please not that we are not implying that the institution is perfect, nor that the senator was wrong to show solidarity with the students, but there is a better manner in which the situation should have been handled,” he added.

Seventeen legislators from the Rift Valley region called for dialogue on the issue.
