Machakos County governor Dr Alfred Mutua continued with his Maendeleo Chap Chap outreach program in Makueni County, opening another office at Kambu, Kibwezi East Constituency.
As a young leader, he said he believes in democracy that allows people to subscribe to ideologies and political parties of choice they identify with.
"Maendeleo Chap Chap is a shift from the empty rhetoric advanced by those that have been in positions of leadership but did not use their positions to improve the livelihood of the citizens. Our commitment is to roll back poverty and empower people so as to make them independent,'' Mutua said when interacting with 'wananchi' at Kambu, Mtito Andei, Machinery, Kinyambu and Kasayani, Saturday.
The Wiper party rebel also joined Christian faithful at Mulala Catholic church, Emali for a Sunday mass service presided over by Fr Joseph Makite.
He said the church plays a vital role in promoting cohesion.
"It was reassuring to hear the priest challenge Kenyan leaders to play their part by desisting from preaching hatred and practising politics of division."
Mutua later interacted with church members and appealed to political leaders to keep politics away from churches and burials as it was against God's and people's will.
