The residents are decrying the rate of water pollution in the region, which they say puts their lives at a risk of contracting water borne diseases.

Led by Benard Okuku, the residents are now planning a peaceful demonstration to air their grievances.

Okuku said that they majorly depend on River Nyamasaria for their domestic water, hence polluting it with factory’s wastes is out of order.

The residents have now invited the Kisumu County government as well as the ministry of environment to quickly visit the region and stop the threatening water pollution.

They have also pleaded with elected leaders from the region to join hands and advocate for their rights which is at stake.

Responding to the lamentation of Kolwa residents, the area Ward Representative Calvince Odhiambo has given a stern warning to the owners of various factories and hotels along River Nyamasaria to desist from discharging their wastes into the water sources.

He also invited the ministry of environment to come out strongly and prosecute those found polluting the environment, both air and water.

Odhiambo said that he is currently drafting a petition to the Kisumu County Assembly concerning the said water pollution.
