Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has advised youths to use social media platforms to empower themselves.
He said such platforms if used positively may empower them financially.
"It is disheartening that youths have turned social media as platforms to abuse political leaders and post pornographic photos instead of using it to earn a living," Mandago said in Eldoret town, Saturday.
"Youths should form WhatsApp groups that will help them share ideas on how to make them financially stable. Completely refrain from politics since it will take you nowhere where. Irresponsible social media use might take you to jail," he added.
Mandago further asked the youth to use various social media platforms for networking.
He, also asked the young generation in society to join cooperatives noting that, "It's sad that majority of youths in the county have not joined cooperatives yet they say they are jobless. Cooperatives are the only channel that will help you get funds from the county government for you to start your own business."
"Let's refrain from the backward thinking of cooperatives being for the old people and instead join. Currently, we are giving loans at an interest of 5 percent," he added.
