Environment CS Keriako Tobiko is a man under fire after suspending forestry staff for failing to end logging in forests.
MPs now want Tobiko to recall all the staff he suspended few days ago.
The legislators led by National Assembly Environment Committee Chairman Kareke Mbiuki said Tobiko should stop intimidating and harassing forestry staff.
“Tobiko should stop unnecessary sackings in his ministry failure to which we will push for his removal. All the officers he suspended including Kenya Forest Service Managing Director Emilio Mugo should be reinstated immediately,” said Mbiuki.
Mbiuki urged Tobiko to allow the Kenya Forest Service staff to concentrate on their work such as planting more trees to restore the forest cover.
He added that the government imposed the ban on forest logging to restore the country’s forest cover but not sacking of the forestry staff.
“The CS should work closely with the Kenya Forest Service workers to end logging in forests to save our forests but not sacking the staff who have worked tirelessly for years to protect forests in the country,” he noted.
Mbiuki was speaking on Thursday when he toured Thogoto Forest in Kiambu County.
