Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has fired a warning shot towards ODM governors for 'overburdening' party leader Raila Odinga with selfish interests after it emerged that the former premier met a section of county chiefs on Monday in Naivasha.
Claims after the meeting emerged that the governors were soliciting favours from Mr Odinga to be given direct party nominations ahead of the 2017 polls.
According to Ms Odinga, the governors should instead present their grievances to the party structure including the Elections Board.
"Governors should approach Judith Pareno if they have issues with the elections within the party and not the party leader," Ms Odinga was quoted by Nation as saying.
Ms Odinga who is also eyeing the Kisumu County governor's seat in the forthcoming elections said the ODM governors have shunned the party structure since they were elected into office and that it was insincere for them to start looking for favours from the party leader at the time the country is headed for elections.
"Governors should stop seeking favours and crying to the party leader every other time and instead face the electorate head-on," she added.
"They should not be panicking if they are sure they performed well in their first term."
