Muslim leaders in Uasin Gishu county have faulted opposition chief Raila Odinga for portraying the country in bad light during his visits abroad.

Led by the County's Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini, the leaders have criticized Odinga for negatively discussing issues affecting the country at the international platform.

Speaking in Eldoret on Sunday, Bini warned that Odinga's continued attacks on the Jubilee government in a bid to push for an interim government might hurt the country's relationship with other countries.

"Our leaders need to be patriotic and respectful to the nation in that issues of national interests should never be discussed with other nations," Bini said.

"By going abroad and talking negatively about this country, the opposition leader was wrong as whatever he said portrayed Kenya in bad light," he added.

Odinga has been in the United states for a series of high-stakes meetings with the US Congress members and was quoted by Reuters calling for a six-month interim government to facilitate open dialogue by Kenyans to resolve the election stand-off.
