A Nyamira MP has said President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto should suspend a prayer rally scheduled this weekend at Afraha stadium and divert their attention at resettling Internally Displaced Persons.

The thanksgiving rally will be in honor of Mr Ruto and radio Journalist Joshua Sang who were recently exonerated by International Criminal Court over the alleged crimes against humanity and forceful deportation committed in the country after the 2007 polls.

But Charles Geni of North Mugirango on Wednesday faulted the thanksgiving ceremony labeling it ‘a joke and mockery’ and challenged the country’s top leadership to abandon the event.

“While I welcome vindication of the DP and Mr Sang, I am against the opinion of holding a prayer rally. It is meaningless when we have thousands of IDPs especially from my constituency who have never been compensated,” Mr Geni said.

“It is my advice that the top leadership calls it off and if they insist, this will be a mockery and a joke to victims of post-election violence. But that does not mean that the two were guilty,” he said.

He accused the government of neglecting hundreds of IDPs from Nyamira County and warned of ‘mass rejection’ of Jubilee government if resettlement is not done before 2017 polls.

“The said prayer rally will be turned to a political event, something which is not even acceptable before the eye of God. The government should abandon the plan and divert resources allocated to the rally for compensation of IDPs,” he added.

“Jubilee government faces a mass rejection by electorates many of them who are yet to be fully compensated. This is the time to embrace the IDPs and give them their rights."
