Molo Member of Parliament Joseph Kiuna has asked the police to stop using excessive force when dispersing rioting crowds.
The MP notes that while it is the responsibility of the police to calm and contain demonstrators, they have no right to use excessive force.
The lawmaker added that many cases have been reported in the constituency, where police use excessive force to disperse groups of demonstrators.
“We are concerned over continuous use of excessive force by the police while containing rioters,” he said.
Kiuna urged the police to exercise their powers within the required limits, and desist from harassing protestors, adding that they have the responsibility to ensure calm, and that they should do it within the law.
This comes after it emerged that two people died in Mau-Narok over alleged police harassment, following riots.
A section of residents on Tuesday demonstrated over what they termed as frequent police harassment.
The residents barricaded the Mau-Narok road and lit bonfires, before they were dispersed by anti-riot police who used tear gas canisters.
The two are allegedly said to have been shot and injured by the police and later died in hospital.
Meanwhile, the MP, who spoke to locals at Njoro town on Wednesday asked needy students in the constituency to apply for bursaries.
He said the constituency bursary committee has enough money that will be awarded to needy but bright students.
