Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has told the Jubilee brigade to stop using government security officials to intimidate locals against voting in the coming elections.

Speaking at a rally on Friday, Kingi said Jubilee has been threatening his acting county secretary by claiming that she was funding the Mombasa Republican Council (MRC) and al Shabaab operations.

Kingi said that Bibi Fondo was arrested by government detectives and interrogated at the Mombasa regional CID offices.

If security officials have any information about unlawful groups, the governor said, they must investigate appropriately.

"The security is in your hands. This time in Kilifi county, we want elections to be conducted peacefully," he said as quoted by the Star.

He said that the government was given enough time to prepare for the elections and should never come out at the final moments "to talk of MRC".

"The national government should learn how to manage security information; let them tell us the plan," he said.
