Kitutu Chache North MP Jimmy Agwenyi is the longest-serving legislator in 12th Parliament.
Jimmy Agwenyi who has since declared himself "Simba ya Kisii" joined politics in 1994 after the death of the then Kitutu Chache MP Zachary Onyonko.
However, in 2007, he was defeated by Onyonka's son Richard Momoima but he bounced back in 2013 when Kitutu Chache was split into North and South.
Mr Angwenyi who is now serving his 5th term holds the post of Deputy Majority leader. His long-serving experience has seen him earn the recognition of the president, speaker, and colleagues in the National Assembly. He is now referred to as the father of the house.
As a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, Jimmy joined the race to succeed Onyonka and in the by-election held in 1994, he was elected MP for Kitutu Chache constituency on a KANU ticket. He held the seat until 1997 when he successfully defended it, still on a KANU ticket.
In 2002, Angwenyi retained his seat, however, this time around on Simeon Nyachae 's Ford People Party.
Mr Angwenyi was forced into a political cold in 2007 General Election when he was trounced by Richard Onyonka. His fall was attributed by the entry of James Ongwae into the race, a person he shares locality with and hence the votes were split. James Ongwae is now the Kisii Governor.
In 2013, Jimmy bounced back to parliament after the split of the constituency into two with Onyonka viewing for the South constituency. The two were elected under two rival camps. Angwenyi elected on The National Alliance (TNA) and Onyonka preferring Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
And in the 2017 General Election, Jimmy yet again retained his seat, easily beating off his competitors. He won under Jubilee party. This has made him the longest-serving MP in the 12th parliament.
