[BCG]Kenya and Uganda medics deny the disease outbreak along River Malaba is cholera Kenya and Uganda health medical officers have confirmed a disease outbreak along River Malaba on both sides of the border but denied it was cholera.The State Minister for Health in charge of General Duties in Uganda Sarah Achieng Opendi, confirmed the disease outbreak, saying it was not cholera as suspected earlier.She said the disease was resulted by consumption of contaminated water from the river.Busia County Health Chief Officer Dr Asoka Itur confirmed that two people had died.He also ruled out possible cholera outbreak saying the diarrheal cases were regarded as Enteropathogenic E. Coli (EPEC) infections caused by to use of untreated river water.Dr Asoka said the situation had been brought under control after the Health Department dispatched an emergency response team with Chlorine tabs and liquid to be refilled at boreholes."The drought has created serious water shortage. The situation is stable with limited new cases. Two cases were reported on Wednesday with none today (Thursday)," he said.Out of 52 people who were admitted at Kocholia, Angurai and Moding hospitals, 46 were discharged with six still under observation. "Residents are undergoing community health education," he said.
