The herd of buffaloes strayed into the Naivasha sub-county based school, sending pupils and teachers to scamper for their safety.

During the early Thursday morning scamper, two minors were seriously injured and taken to a local health centre and admitted although no causality was reported.

The Kenya Wild life Services (KWS) officers had to intervene to keep off the stray animals, their efforts being reinforced by locals.

According to Charles Mburu, the National Chairman Youth Forum, who led the local residents in driving the animals away, the prevailing harsh climatic conditions were to be blamed as the cause of wild animals invading human settlements.

“We have been witnessing wild animals straying into human settlements due to the biting harsh weather,” said Mburu.

Mburu also blamed human activities especially the ongoing geothermal projects in the area as the major cause of human-wild conflict.

“Theses wild animals are displaced to pave room for human activities .This has forced animals to move from their national habitats and stray to human settlements,” he said.

Mburu urged KWS to contain the situation because there has been arise in human–wild conflict in the area like Mai Mahiu.

The residents however had something to smile after one buffalo fell in a ditch, slaughtered it and divided amongst themselves its meat.
