A five year child from Ramba village in Nyamira county is currently undergoing treatment in Nyamira Hospital after stray dogs mauled him on Wednesday evening.
According to eyewitnesses, Brian Raini was going home from the near market center where his mother had sent her when he was attacked by the dogs.
“We heard the child crying loudly and rushed to the scene where we found two huge dogs wrestling with the boy on the ground before we rushed him to Nyamira Hospital in a critical condition," said Dennis Mayaka, an eye witness.
Confirming the incident, area Chief Dickson Mogaka said that the owner of the dogs is yet to be identified.
"We're saddened by the event that have left the child in s critical condition and we're looking for the owner of the dogs to take responsibility," said Mogaka.
However, the attack elicited sharp reactions from local residents who accused Nyamira county government officials of failing to bait stray dogs despite the fact that they've been raising concern.
