Traders operating at Kenyatta market in Kibera have decried the increased number of children in the streets who have turned to be robbers.
Speaking at the market on Saturday, the traders have accused the county government of failing to take all street children to rehabilitation center something they said has contributed to the street children to opt to rob traders.
"It is sad that youths who have been pretending to be street children have now opted to be robbing traders in the name of street children. Nairobi County has failed to remove the children in streets. Traders help these children with food but now they have turned to be robbers, stealing from the same people who provides them with food daily," said Angeline Bironga.
She noted that the county government of Nairobi should act in time before the street children turn to be a security threat to the traders, residents ans the country as a whole.
"County askaris and police officers should arrest the children going round in streets pretending as street children. These children have an hidden agenda which needs to be investigated otherwise the security of the people will soon be at risk," noted Simon Sihemi.
He added that traders are now in fear and closes their businesses as earlier as 6 pm to avoid being robbed once the dark jets.
"The street children late at night are seen going round in the market. During this time is when they conduct the silly act of stealing from traders and residents have been robbed their mobile phones and other properties. This has forced many traders to close businesses earlier. Residents walking late at night walk with fear of being robbed, "he concluded.
