Street families from Nairobi have called on Nairobi governor Mike Sonko to give them cleaning jobs.

The street families have decried discrimination citing that the agents in charge of recruitment are biased. They called on the governor-elect to look into the matter, saying that the jobs were initially created for them.

Kennedy Mwangi, their spokesperson, said that since the start of the exercise they had been attending recruitment meetings but are yet to receive feedback despite the exercise having kicked off.

“We have been going to all the meetings held at Jeevanjee Gardens daily for recruitment people but the staff always bring people in buses from the major estates to come and do the job instead of giving the jobs to us as Sonko promised,” said Mwangi.

The ongoing cleaning exercise will take place across the county and will involve removal of campaign posters, unclogging of sewers, clearing mounds of garbage and adopting a dependable garbage dumping mechanism.
