Kisii town street vendors are now appealing to the town council to waiver their tax payment into twice a week due to the ongoing rainy season.
Those who spoke to Hivisasa said the unpredictable rains are making it difficult for them to sell, in order to meet the daily council taxes and to provide for their families.
"We face many challenges as businessmen in our daily undertakings. We ask the county council if possible to tax us twice a week because with the rains we hardly get customers," Said Josphat Gichana, a seller in the town.
The street vendors also want the town council askaris to be sympathetic to their businesses, claiming that it's through them they pay taxes and sustain their families too.
"The council is not fair to us when they say we should back and leave with our things. They see what we sell as dirty yet we pay tax and feed our families through them. They should not be chasing us here and there but allow us to do our businesses as they come to collect tax from us," said Patrick Maina, a shoe seller in one of the streets.
Heavy rains are being witnessed in Gusii region and nationwide with many deaths reported from floods experienced in some parts of Kenya.
