Parts of Marsabit on Thursday morning were flooded following heavy rains that pounded the town. Several businessmen in the area are counting losses after the heavy rains.
The central business has been greatly affected following the heavy downpour that rocked the area after a prolonged period of drought that led to suffering among residents.
Before the rains, residents had to work for miles in order to fetch water for domestic use and giving to their animals.
Speaking to Daily Nation, Ms Hassan, who operates a grocery shop in Marsabit Town, said that many businesspersons have suffered heavy losses since they cannot prevent water from carrying away their property after the rains hit different parts of the county.
"I woke up at 1 am following the flooding. The water was already in the house at that time and the rain was still falling," said Ms Hassan.
Her sentiments were backed by another businesswoman, Grace Lusichi, who claimed that she has lost close to Sh.30,000 because of the floods.
Area MCA Hassan Waqo lamented that the construction of the roads in the region was not conducted properly, adding that they cannot afford to lose water and property at the same time.
