Street signs bearing names of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto in Chuka town were on Friday night defaced by unknown people.
The perpetrators sprayed the signs with dark paint which fully covering the names of the two leaders.
It is not yet clear what was the motive behind the defacing of the signs considering that the area is as a Jubilee stronghold.
The naming of the streets led to an outcry from area residents who questioned the formula used in identification of the streets, especially for local leaders.
Senator Kithure Kindiki and Chuka/Igambang’ombe MP Muthomi Njuki are among leaders who were honoured by the new naming.
Kindiki has so far denounced the renaming of the streets after him claiming that he was not consulted prior to the naming.
“I do not believe a public facility should be named after me, not now, not in the future, because I have not yet made enough sacrifices to our community’s development to warrant a road being named in my honour,” said Prof Kindiki in a facebook post.
It is alleged that the streets had been named without involving the town's administration.
