A medical practitioner during the week and a tout over the weekend is the complex story of Lucia Muroto.
25-year old Lucia is not your ordinary arrogant tout with smelly armpits and a rotten mouth, Lucia popularly know as Mlami is a white female conductor with Wamasaa Sacco plying the Kitengela route.
Born in Kenya to Italian parents, soft spoken Lucia fell in love with the Matatu culture at a tender age, she admired how the crews scrambled for customers and how they enjoyed their work.
The urge to be a part of the ever evolving Matatu culture thrilled her and she eventually convinced her father to allow her to work at the family business as a medical practitioner during the week and venture on the road during the weekends. He agreed, and Lucia become "Mlami" as she is popularly known to date.
In a recent interview on a local TV station, Lucia who has mastered Sheng confessed her love for what she does saying “Wamasa Sacco iko kwa damu hadi siku Ntakufa” adding, “Me hupenda job yangu na akuna msee anaeza nidiscourage”
