Learning institutions have been challenged to strengthen their guidance and counselling departments so as to help reduce crime rates in the facilities.

According to Pastor Ogentoto of Matutu PAG Church, who is also a counsellor, said that schools should have the department strengthened as this will help new students be well guided.

Ogentoto, who was speaking to on Thursday at Gesima, said that being the time where first years are joining universities and others joining form one, it is important for management to have a well-structured guidance and counseling department.

''My advice to management of learning institutions is to strengthen this department so that it can help new students in a way that can nurture them positively and on how to adapt the new environment,'' said Ogentoto.

He added that most students who join universities and high schools end up joining bad groups that ruin their behaviors leading to high crime rates in schools because of poor guidance and counseling.
