The MP notes that the NTSA should ensure that road regulations are strictly enforced to tame accidents that are common during this period.

Kahangara said that accidents can be tamed if road users adhere to the existing traffic regulations.

The MP who condoled with the families and relatives of the Naivasha strategy victims urged the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) to put up road signs along the Nairobi-Naivasha-Nakuru highway to guide motorists.

He observed that some of the road signs erected along the highway have been vandalised.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority must do an inspection of all roads and highways to make sure that there are visible road signs to guide motorists,” he said on Tuesday during a briefing with journalists at his Lari office.

The MP also supported calls to have special lanes created for fuel tankers and other long distance vehicles.

He said the move will help tame road accidents that are majorly caused by long distanced vehicles.

On Saturday night 43 people died in a grisly accident involving a Uganda canter ferrying flammable substance at Karai trading centre along the Nakuru-Naivasha highway.

The Ugandan registered truck allegedly hit a bump and veered off the road before bursting into flames that consumed other thirteen vehicles. The accident has been blamed on the illegal speed bumps allegedly erected on the highway by KeNHA.

The process of identifying the bodies of the deceased some of who were burnt beyond recognition is ongoing at the Chiromo Mortuary.

Eleven GSU officers were among the people who perished in the Naivasha accident.

Meanwhile, Lari sub-county commissioner Aron Koros has warned locals against stealing from accident victims.

The commissioner observes a rising tendency where some locals steal from victims who die or survive from road accidents along the Lari- Naivasha highway.

Mr Koros warned locals with such behaviour saying they will be arrested and prosecuted.

He said that he has received complaints of this behaviour saying that police are on the lookout for culprits.

“It is shameful to steal from victims of accidents especially those who die in the accidents,” he said as quoted by the Star.
