On Friday, Employment and Labour Relations Judge Hellen Wasilwa suspended the sentence for another seven days so as to allow for talks on the issue.

Wasilwa also handed authority to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) and the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (Cotu) to spearhead negotiations between the government on one side and Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) on the other.

This comes after Cotu Secretary-General Francis Atwoli asked to help resolve the stalemate that has stretched the strike into a third month.

Atwoli asked the court to suspend the jail sentence and allow him the role to help resolve the standoff that has pushed poor Kenyans into much suffering.
