Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane has issued a seven day notice to striking nurses to resume work or they get sacked.

Bunow says that the countrywide nurses’ strike has hampered delivery of health services to residents.

In an interview with the Star, the Jubilee governor said that he will immediately sack the nurses and employ new ones if they fail heed to the notice.

The Garissa governor said that locals cannot continue to suffer, adding that plans to recruit new nurses are in the offing in the over 300 striking nurses ignore the notice.

“We cannot allow our people to continue suffering suffer just because the striking nurses have refused to get back to work as their issues are being resolved,” the Garissa governor said as quoted by the Star.

Bunow said that the strike has affected locals many who cannot afford treatment in private hospitals.

The over 300 Garissa nurses alongside their colleagues countrywide have been on strike for over 100 days.

The striking nurses are demanding implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) they signed with the national and county governments.

Early this week Council of Governors (COG) chairman Josphat  Nanok ordered the striking nurses to resume work after the court declared their strike illegal.

Nanok has written to county governors asking them to take disciplinary action against nurses who fail to resume duty.

The striking nurses have however vowed to stay put saying that they will not be forced to go back to work unless the CBA they signed is fully implemented.
