Striking nurses at the Moi Teaching and Referral (MTRH) Hospital in Eldoret are now blaming the hospital's management for their prolonged strike.
Kenya National Union of Nurses MTRH branch chairman Kennedy Orangi said despite them being on strike for over 40 days now, the management led by Director Dr Wilson Aruasa has given them a deaf ear.
The MTRH nurses begun their strike on June 1, demanding for the implementation of a Collective Bargaining Agreement they signed with the hospital's management in 2015.
"We want to know why our CBA is being ignored yet the very same management has signed another CBA with doctors," Orangi told the press in Eldoret, Wednesday.
“As nurses we are disappointed with Dr. Aruasa's leadership. We demand his resignation for sanity to prevail,” he added.
The nurses vowed to continue with the strike until the CBA is signed and registered in court.
However, while responding to the nurses allegations, Dr Aruasa said they have agreed with the nurses on everything in the CBA except for the Basic Salaries which they are waiting for a structure from the Salaries and Renumeration Commission (SRC).
“KNUN needs to be sincere and honest with the nurses. We have written to SRC on the same. It's only after we get No Objection letter from SRC that the CBA will be registered,” he said.
