Striking nurses in Mombasa have asked Governor Ali Hassan Joho to help bring together all the 47 governors in a round table in a move aimed at ending the health care impasse.
The nurses' strike which begun in June has led to a complete paralysis of healthcare system in the country.
Speaking on Wednesday shortly after holding a meeting with the Mombasa governor, Kenya National Union of Nurses acting national chairman Joseph Ngwasi revealed that they had tasked Joho to speak to his counterparts for a meeting go have their grievances addressed.
"We are now calling for a round-table meeting between nurses' union, county governments and the national government to resolve the pending issues before thinking about a return-to-work formula," he said.
"The only issue we want addressed is the CBA. We cannot be coerced to return to work. Our strike is not controlled by a button, which you can switch on or off," he added.
The 7-hour meeting between Joho and the union officials, however, is said to have been unfruitful.
