Speaking to the press, John Njoroge, who is one of casual labourers, the management had hired them so as to ensure that they prevent all the perishable foods from going bad.

"We were not hired permanently but only on a short term basis before they resolve their issue with the striking workers. Now we have been chased away by the other workers and we have not been paid for the three days that we have worked here," Njoroge said.

Mercy Njeri, who is one of the striking workers, said that it was not good for the management to go ahead and hire other workers and yet they have not resolved their differences.

"How comes they are hiring new workers and yet we have not been sorted. We have not even been paid. We have decided to chase them away so that the management can deal with us first before deciding on the others’ fate," Njeri said.

Efforts to talk to the management of the company failed as gates remained closed for the better part of the day.
