The exercise is focused on aligning the firm's structure, affecting approximately 60 staff.

In a statement, Airtel Kenya Chief Executive Adil El Youssefi said one of the key objectives of the restructuring exercise is to create a high performing organisation, which satisfies the needs of its stakeholders, especially customers, as the firm steps into the next growth phase.

''Airtel is sensitive towards the affected staff and is committed to minimizing the impact of this exercise on the employees. As a way of helping the affected staff members during the transition, the Company is compensating above what is prescribed by the prevailing laws,'' the statement read in part, Friday.

The firm has been struggling to be on top of Kenya's telecommunication sector, even as Safaricom maintains the lead.

In 2016 Airtel announced it would invest Sh20 billion until 2018 for its expansion.
