A newborn baby has been rescued alive from a public toilet in Kitengela after being dumped by the mother.
Police arrested Faith Ndinda, the mother, was arrested on Friday while hiding at a friend's house after allegedly dumping the baby.
The second year university student was taken to the area police station by area assistant chief Agnes Sayia while the infant was taken to Galaxy Medical Centre in Koromboi.
According to doctors at the hospital, the infant requires specialised care in an incubator because it is underweight.
"It suffered bruises on its back and neck. Most probably occurred when the mother was pushing it into the toilet," said Dr David Musila, a doctor at the hospital.
He said the baby was rescued after floating in the used toilet for over 45 minutes.
“We did the cleaning of the umbilical cord and all over the body and recommended that it be taken to Kenyatta [National Hospital],” he added.
Police revealed that the mother will be charged with attempting to kill the baby.
