A form 2 student is nursing serious injuries after she was burnt by teachers over an alleged accusation of belonging to a satanic sect – illuminati.
The incident took place at Strait Academy at Laini Saba area, Kibera.
The deputy principal, principal and three other teachers are accused of allegedly burning the 17-year old girl using paper bags which they lit and dropped the burning fragments all over her body, with both her hands and legs tied up. Damaris Mwangi, the mother of the girl, said she was told by the deputy principal that they threatened the students to find out the truth.
“The deputy principal told me they wanted to know whether they were agents of Satan because of their association to a student in form 4 who was supposedly a devil worshipper,” she said.
Florence Syokau, the school’s principal, denied being present during the incident saying the she came moments before the parents arrived.
“I only heard from the deputy principal that they had been praying. I was not there because the deputy principal is the patron of the Christian Union. They were claiming there is devil worshipping, so I don’t know much about her,” said Ms. Syokau.
She admitted the accused teachers were present while the incident took place and she as the head of the school, she had taken responsibility for the girl.
“I took responsibility because I purchased the drugs and took it to the child for medication,” she said.
According to Ms. Mwangi, the issue has affected the girl both physically and psychologically.
