Led by President Rodgers Nyanumba on Tuesday, the leaders backed Governor James Ongwae government on his developmental agendas and requested Kisii University management to enjoin county government in all university activities.

“This county government has shown its intention to help residents fight poverty. We request the university to incorporate it for the betterment of livelihoods of area residents,” said Nyanumba.

He urged the county government to expeditiously repair impassable feeder roads in area inhabited by students besides mounting street lights from main campus to Kisi town to curb the rampant insecurity incidents in the area.

“The rainy season is making it difficult for students to attend fundamental lectures due to mud. The situation diminishes further at night due to absence of street lights. We plead with the government to chip in and help us handle it,” Nyanumba said.

Secretary General Kevin Okwara requested the local leadership to assist needy students by disbursing bursaries to the student welfare organisation. He said it will be easier to for the union to identify genuine beneficiaries.

“Our county should, in philanthropic spirit assist our social welfare for us to handle challenges faced by those of us from humble backgrounds. We promise to be transparent and accountable since we were brought up with those principles,” Okwara said.

They hailed the county government for signing MoU with the institution that enables it to start the School of Medicine in collaboration with Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
