Moses Rop, a second-year student pursuing Bachelor of Arts in Education says he has to miss the December break to raise college fees.
Rop says he has to stay in Kisumu through the break as it makes more economic sense to him and his studies.
“I come from a humble background in West Pokot and going back home won’t do me any good. In fact, it will cost me more money due to the distance and hiked fares,” he says.
“My parents can’t afford my fees which leaves me vulnerable to being locked out of the examinations so I have to make ends meet.”
He runs and manages bodaboda businesses belonging to one of his lecturers in Kisumu.
“I have no one to depend on so I believe I will raise sufficient money during this festive season due to the number of people travelling. I am also hoping to cash in during prophets Awuor’s visit,” says Rop.
He adds, “I work until late night which I believe my efforts will bear fruits.”
