A form four student at Nanga High School in Kisumu risks developing a disability due to a bullet lodged in his left thigh.Chrispine Ochieng says the bullet was lodged in his thigh after police allegedly fired live bullets in a bid to quell chaos witnessed as residents opposed the holding of the repeat presidential elections in Kisumu on October 26, last year.Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday, Chrispine said the incident occurred at his parents’ house in Nyalenda Estate.“I was at my parents’ house with my sister when police broke in. As I tried to escape I felt my leg become heavy and that is when I fell down,” said the student.Marcus Onyango who is the student’s father said his son has not received any proper medication due to lack of funds. Marcus said the Kisumu County Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o promised to facilitate his son’s medication but the promise is yet to be honoured.“We had a meeting with Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, former Kisumu deputy governor Ruth Odinga and other leaders. They promised to assist but so far nothing has been forthcoming,” he said.Nanga High School Principal Ann Nyamamba, said the state of affairs has impacted negatively on the student’s academic performance. The father and the head teacher appealed to well-wishers to intervene and have the student operated on to remove the bullet.
