The student from Kilifi County who was willing to sell one of his kidneys to raise university fees can now breathe a sigh of relief after landing a scholarship that will enable him pursue his dream to become a doctor.22-year-old Daniel Wanje who sat for KCSE in 2015 at Ribe Boys High School and scored a mean grade of B+ had been offered admission to study medicine at the Mount Kenya University. However, he could not raise the fees, something that pushed him to the thought of selling one of his organs to enable him pursue his university education at the Thika-based institution.Luck came his way on Monday as Mount Kenya University founder and chairman Simon Gicharu who was touched by the story came to his aid following public appeal.Gicharu said the university will help Wanje realize his dreams to pursue a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree by offering him a full year scholarship.“The support will include tuition and hostel fees for one academic year and out of pocket allowances for one academic year,” read a letter form the varsity's Board of Directors.
