More than 3,500 students from Uasin Gishu who registered D- and below in the 2017 KCSE examination are expected to join technical training institutes.
Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has revealed the county plans to help them join these institutions so that they acquire skills such as carpentry, plumbing, and masonry.
He further said that the 500 students who had E will not be left out of the programme saying the county education board will be deliberating on how they can help them.
"The county will hire the skilled youths for construction projects in the region that will be undertaken by the county and national governments," said Mandago.
“We are about to start construction of more than 2,000 housing units in Eldoret under a national government plan. We will need skilled youths ... this is why we must prepare them," he added.
Mandago supported appeals to have a though audit of the mass failure and said a stakeholder meeting should be organized to chat the possible causes of the failure.
"Many students have been locked out of institutions of higher learning," he noted in Turbo.
"We cannot sit down and watch as thousands of children suffer. Their future will be ruined," said Mandago.
The governor who was speaking at a New Year party in Eldoret announced that 600 graduates will do their internships at the county.
“I assure our youth that 2018 is their time for progress. We will also give loans at five percent interest rates to youth groups that start businesses."
