Maseno University students have expressed their anger after the institution’s opening dates were postponed.
The opening date for the third trimester that was set for May 2 has been pushed to May 16.
According to Charles Juma, President of Students Organisation of Maseno University (Somu), the opening dates have been pushed with the management citing 'security issues' that need to be handled before the institution opens.
However, many students that posted their views on Maseno University Facebook groups blamed the student leaders for failing to represent them well.
"Today, I am a disappointed man. Disappointed in the sense that the admin puppet failed the comrades that he can manage to say that the senate will always have their way in decisions that affect us the comrades," read part of Alfred Makotsi's post.
Antony Kamano, Somu's director of academics said that it is very unfair for the opening dates to be postponed.
"Some students have already booked buses to school. Students had used a lot of their time to prepare to go back to school and it was therefore impractical for the dates to be pushed," he said.
However, Juma said that it is not proper for the student leaders to be blamed.
"Student leaders have only two votes whereas the administration has 70 votes in the senate," he said.
The students have been advised to check today's (Friday) papers for clear communication about the opening dates.
