Nairobi detectives have nabbed two students and three other civilians who have reportedly been running an illegal firm involved in issuing fake documents similar to those of the county government.
The team of crime detectives drawn from the Ethics and Anti-Graft Commission (EACC) nabbed the five who had been working in cartels with county officials in running the lucrative company that is named, Dimension Construction.
The five suspects include Isaac Muriuki, a student at the Nairobi college of Technology, William Mwangi an intern at the Nairobi County Planning Department, Bonny Otieno, a former City Hall employee, Akaranga Francis employee and Mirungi Elisaba.
Confirming the arrests, Nairobi's Director of Investigations, Geoffrey Gathurima stated that the cartel was unearthed after a motorist raised concerns after he was issued with a fake receipt.
“We have been pursuing this syndicate for over three years and we finally found a breakthrough after a concerned motorist whose vehicle had been impounded displayed what turned out to be fake receipt. The five suspects have been receiving millions of cash meant for the county government,” Gathurima revealed.
Preliminary investigations have also revealed that the company has been issuing thousands of fake documents of building and planning approvals, payment vouchers and receipts, fire certificate, occupation certificates and also public health certificates.
According to City Hall officials, the illegal company has even approved building documents in posh areas of Kileleshwa and Karen.
