According to a notice released by the management on Monday, campaigns will begin on September 5 and end September 10, a directive that affects all campuses affiliated with the institution.

Candidates will begin presenting their nomination papers to the elections body on August 26, 2016.

The notice which was posted on the university website did not give reasons behind the reduced campaign period although it is speculated that chaos witnessed during the last elections could have motivated the new directive.

During the last campaigns, cases of students losing their lives were reported something that led to unrest in the institution leading to indefinite closure.

Previously, aspirants used to campaign for three weeks before polls, and the reduction in voting days might be interpreted as a move to reduce the tension that might lead to unrest among the students.

The new Vice Chancellor Prof Julius Nyambudi last week announced that institution will ban all ethnic groupings a direction which was given by the government in order to promote national cohesion.
