Kisii university students and parents have protested against the impending closure of Keroka Campus for being noncompliant with the Commission of Higher Education requirements.
Keroka Campus which was among several others targeted for closure in January next year lacked key infrastructural facilities demanded by the education ministry.
According to the ministry, the campuses should wind up their programmes and join the main campus in their respective universities.
Demonstrating in Keroka town on Thursday, the students expressed fear that the government move will adversely affect most students who hailed from a poor background.
Led by Clinton Nyandoro a third-year student, they claimed that they will be psychologically affected since their courses will terminated mid-stream.
“We are shocked that they want to close this campus, if closed we are going to be affected since this branch has been helpful to many students who mostly travel from their homes,” said Nyandoro.
Nyandoro further alleged that they will not afford traveling long distances to the main campus in Kisii town besides losing of jobs for employees.
They also called upon the two levels of government and political leadership to collectively chat the way forward for the campus.
A parent and sponsor of vulnerable students, Eric Abira, noted that the campus is accessible to most students who cut down expenses by operating from their homes.
He challenged the two governors of Nyamira and Kisii to intervene including looking for an alternative site.
