During this semester alone Matatu’s have used the varsity’s highway about ten times and the students are finding it a nuisance as they cannot conduct their businesses in peaceful manner.

The Matatu’s usually use the route at Maseno University to evade a road block by National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) that is usually mounted between Maseno and Chulaimbo.

“The road is crowded and we can’t move swiftly while going to class because of speeding vehicles and human traffic. Something should be done immediately because we cannot continue like this,” said Kipkosgei Joseph, a student at the institution.

The students said the Matatus usually move at high speeds considering that the route is narrow making the students' lives at risk adding that the behaviour might result into accidents.

“Sometimes we are forced to look for alternative routes while going to class simply because our designated route has been taken over by outsiders. This really wastes our time,” said Martin Imbala, another student.

The students who were speaking to this writer on Friday said the worst part is that the Matatus usually turn some sections of the Maseno University main highway into makeshift passenger pick points, inconveniencing the daily user even more.

They have now urged NTSA to extend its hunt to Maseno University Highway and nab operators who are now becoming a threat to students' lives.
