Students in Maseno have raised concern over the increased cases of insecurity in Maseno.
A number of students have lost property including laptops, phones, electronics while others have suffered injuries such as external cuts with the latest case being a male student who was stubbed in the hand Tuesday this week.
He was escorting his girlfriend at around 9pm who resides in Shaba and when he came back he found a group of 3 men in house armed with pangas.
He ran out screaming but he was stubbed on his right hand before they disappeared without stealing anything.
Mike Okoyo says he has lost a laptop and phone.
“I was attacked while on my way back to the house from the market. One of them stabbed me on the head before taking away my laptop and phone,” said Okoyo.
Annet who resides in Churchil says she has suffered twice the consequence of insecurity.
“My house has been broken into twice this semester when I am away and I have lost my bedding and gas cylinders.”
I some places such as Nyawita, some tenants have formed a security system to safeguard their safety.
“We are very alert and armed to the teeth. In case one of us is attacked, we close the main door and fight the enemy. This place has become very risky to reside,” said Jackson Sifa.
They are now appealing for both the government and school administration to handle the issue with due urgency.
“We want the school and county government to come to our rescue especially now that the semester goes to its last month. Our safety is very important and we want more and increased patrols in the area of Maseno," said Paul Kemei a student.
