Matiang’i said before students are transferred to other schools, their transfers must be approved by sub-county directors of education.

He added that the government will not repair school structures that have been destroyed or burnt by students during riots.

Speaking on Monday, the CS said schools' management will be held responsible for the damage adding that parents will also have to fund the repairs of schools destroyed by their children.

“All head teachers should not admit transferring students without the clearance letter from sub-county director of education to confirm that your child has not been burning schools and you are moving him to continue burning more schools.”

“Government funds will not be spent on repairing schools destroyed by students in recent spate of violence. If students engage in destructive behavior, they stay in that school and repair it with their parents,” the CS said.

Matiang’i who urged parents to teach their children to be responsible said the education ministry will take action to stem riots in schools.

Over the weekend, Itierio Boys High School in Kisii County was closed indefinitely after students burnt seven dormitories after they were denied a chance to watch a football match between Portugal and Croatia in the ongoing Euro 2016 tournament.
