400 candidates from 21 Arid and Semi-Arid (ASAL) poor backgrounds including Garissa County have been awarded full scholarships worth Sh234.2 million by the government.
This is in order to see them pursue their nursing studies at Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC).
“The beneficiaries were selected on the basis of their willingness to serve in their respective communities upon graduation and because of the potential of the healthcare professionals from ASAL areas to impact their own County’s health practices and policies,” said Peter Kimuu the Ministry of Health, head of Policy, Planning and Healthcare Financing.
The other lucky 21 Arid and Semi-Arid (ASAL) Counties include Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Isiolo, Kajiado, Kilifi, Kitui, Kwale, Laikipia, Lamu, Lodwar, Mandera, Marsabit, Narok, Samburu, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Tharaka Nithi, Turkana, Wajir and West Pokot.
