Disadvantaged students from Kisii University’s hope to sit for end of semester exams was rekindled following charity games that were organised by the institution’s Christian Union. On Friday, well-wishers comprising of staff members and students turned up in large numbers to help raise fees for underprivileged students for exams scheduled from March 30. According to the institution’s policy, government sponsored students have to clear fee before being declared eligible to sit for exams while their counterparts on self-sponsorship have to pay at least three-quarters of the fee. Speaking during the event, organising committee chairperson Flora Chepchumba said the event had realised its objectives following a high turnout. “We targeted at least Sh50,000 and we have managed Sh65,000. This is massive and we hope someone will sit for his or her exam. I am sure the ten or so cases we had will be solved,” she said. She lauded participants for their effort to register besides urging the management to come up with a kitty that will help such students. “I wish to congratulate all who made this success. Without you, we couldn’t have made it. The institution should come up with a kitty that can solve such cases. I know of many students who have differed their studies due to lack of fee,” she said.
